Shakhtar youth team faced their Polissia counterparts away in the U19 National League round 3
Shakhtar U19 head coach Maksym Malyshev named the following starting XI for the match against Polissia U19: Chympoiesh started in goal, Koman and Bytsyk played at full-back, Shukalovych and Onishchuk formed the centre of defence; Byrladianu, Voloshko and Trokhym operated in midfield, Zheliba and Safonov were on the wings, with Haponenko leading the attack.
Shakhtar’s dominance not reflected on the scoreboard
The match started with a dangerous direct free-kick from Onishchuk, which Fomenko reacted to with a diving save. A moment later, the Zhytomyr side tried to create a chance from a corner, but Lipinskyi, despite winning the aerial challenge, was unable to direct his header towards goal. Shakhtar created a chance in the 9th minute when Zheliba capitalised on a mistake by Lipinskyi, robbed him of the ball and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but missed the target. The teams then battled for possession, with the Miners clearly enjoying the better of it, and created no further opportunities before the end of the first half.
A late goal conceded
After the break, the Miners briefly took control of possession and looked for a way into the final third, but were unable to produce any efforts on target. After several attacks, the Zhytomyr side took the initiative and launched a dangerous attack, with Dovhalets sending a low cross from the flank into the box towards Halii – Shukalovych cleared the danger. Polissia U19 looked slightly more active and aimed to unsettle Shakhtar’s defensive line, which remained well organised and did not allow any further threats to Chympoiesh’s goal. Soon after, an air raid alert sounded in Hlybochytsia, and the match was suspended for 40 minutes. After play resumed, the Wolves could have opened the scoring following a wing attack and a subsequent pass into the centre, with Soloviov’s effort going wide. Later, Dovhalets was again active, but Chympoiesh reacted to his attempt. However, the Zhytomyr outfit eventually turned their efforts into a goal late in the match: Dandjuma delivered from the left flank to the far post, where Savchuk escaped his marker and headed the ball towards goal.
0-1 – Shakhtar U19 lost to Polissia U19 in their first away match of the season. A week later, on August 26, the Miners will face Dynamo Kyiv U19 in the youth edition of the Youth League Clasico. The match will take place at the Arsenal Arena in Shchaslyve, with a live stream available on Shakhtar’s official YouTube channel.
