Shakhtar youth team faced their Dynamo Kyiv counterparts in the U19 National League round 4
The Miners have won 2 and lost 1 of their first 3 matches of the season, picking up 6 points (goal difference: 4-2), while Dynamo have recorded 2 wins and 1 draw in the opening rounds to collect 7 points (goal difference: 8-2).
Both teams had chances, but the visitors were the ones who scored
The Orange-and-Blacks tried to take control of the game from the opening minutes and created the first dangerous chance: Safonov received the ball on the left side of the penalty area, took a couple of steps towards the centre and unleashed a powerful shot just wide of the far top corner. The Kyiv side, however, made the most of their chance and opened the scoring in the 13th minute, with Dekhtiar firing from the centre of the penalty area into the bottom right corner. Buoyed by the goal, the visitors continued to attack, and Chympoiesh had to make several saves to keep the Pitmen in the game. However, in 31st minute, the visitors scored again, with Fedorenko converting a cross from the left corner at the far post. The Miners took control towards the end of the first half and had several chances to reduce the deficit. After a pass from deep, Bytsyk fired wide of the right corner under pressure from an opponent, while the Kyiv side’s goalkeeper saved efforts from Voloshko and Safonov.
A half dominated by Shakhtar, Trokhym’s goal and a dramatic finale
Two substitutions were made at half-time for the hosts, with Koman and Chornenkyi coming on. At the start of the second half, the teams exchanged dangerous efforts from Safonov and Dekhtiar, with both shots going wide. The sides then traded attacks, but there were few opportunities. In another wave of substitutions, the Miners brought on Pylypiuk and Trokhym. Midway through the half, the Pitmen could have been awarded a penalty, but the referee waved play on after a fall in the visitors’ penalty area. Harmash threatened from distance, but his effort went over the crossbar. He then tried to catch Roienko out with a free-kick, but the ball again went just over the bar. And yet the Orange-and-Blacks managed to pull one back in the 85th minute: a fine combination between Koman and Chornenkyi on the left side of the penalty area ended with a low cross into the centre, and Arsenii-Tymofii Trokhym beat the goalkeeper with a first-time effort to make it 1-2. In the closing minutes, the Pitmen launched a final assault on the visitors’ goal, and an incredible finale unfolded in the last second of added time: following a corner, Chornenkyi struck the ball with his shoulder and hit the crossbar, the goalkeeper saved the follow-up header, but Chornenkyi eventually forced the ball into the net. However, the referee disallowed the goal for offside. 1-2 – Shakhtar U19 narrowly lost a fiercely contested Ukrainian Youth League Clasico.
