Comment from Shakhtar U19 head coach Maksym Malyshev following the victory over Lviv U19 in the opening round of the new U19 National League season
– We prepared very thoroughly for the match against Lviv U19 and put in a tremendous amount of work during our training camp. The lads did a great job. We dominated the game with the right attitude and concentration and played aggressively. Of course, the most important thing for me is our style of play and the ideas we instil in the players. They carry everything out, and I'm proud of them.
– Did you feel any extra nerves given that it was your first match as Shakhtar U19 head coach?
– Of course, you always want to start the league campaign with a win and move forward in good spirits. I wasn't nervous; we were well prepared for the match. I'd like to stress that every player knew his responsibilities and carried them out with the right commitment and focus. The team must operate as one unit, that's the main thing.
– Both halves began with goalscoring opportunities in front of the opposition's goal. Was the plan to score an early goal?
We were playing at home and we're an aggressive, dominant team that create a lot of chances. We prepared to start the match that way, and we'll look to be more clinical with our chances in the upcoming games.
– What objectives have you set for your players, and what are your expectations for the new season?
– It's important to me that the players keep improving with every day, every training session and every match. It's also important that the team have a single playing model, and we're moving in that direction. There are plenty of matches and a lot of work ahead of us, and we're ready for it.
