Shakhtar U19 hosted Lviv U19 in the first match of the new season in Shchaslyve

Shakhtar U19 head coach Maksym Malyshev named the following starting line-up for the opening game of the new season: Chympoiesh was in goal, Koman, Shukalovych, Onishchuk and Nyzhnyk played in defence, Trokhym, Kots and Voloshko formed the midfield, Safonov and Kuriachyi operated on the wings, with Bida leading the attack.

Active start

The hosts made a bright start and created a gilt-edged chance in front of Lykhvar's goal: Safonov played the ball down the flank into the path of Trokhym, who burst into the final third and found Bida in a promising position, but the striker failed to hit the target. The Lviv outfit created a dangerous moment after playing out from the back when Chympoiesh failed to gather the ball at the first attempt, allowing Apalkov to try to capitalise, but without success. The Miners enjoyed more possession and looked the more dangerous side. Kots and Kuriachyi both had chances following well-worked team moves, but Lykhvar came to the visitors' rescue on both occasions. In the 39th minute, Shakhtar U19 head coach Maksym Malyshev was forced into a substitution, with Kravchuk replacing Kuriachyi. A minute later, the Miners came close to taking the lead, but Bida's close-range effort was struck straight at the goalkeeper.

Crucial goals from Shukalovych and Haponenko

Shakhtar made a double substitution at half-time, with Abramov and Bytsyk coming on. The Miners' bright start to the second half soon paid off: following a corner, Safonov collected the loose ball, took advantage of the space available and delivered a precise cross to Shukalovych, who headed home to open the scoring. The game was then played largely in Lviv's half, with the Orange-and-Blacks dominating possession, although the visitors' defence remained well organised and prevented them from creating chances at close range. Eventually, in the 73rd minute, the Pitmen doubled their lead when Haponenko beat his marker inside the penalty area and finished clinically, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The closing stages were played at a steady pace, with few dangerous chances at either end.

2-0 – the youth team begin the new U19 National League season with a victory over Lviv U19. The next league game will take place in a week's time, on August 12, in Shchaslyve against LNZ U19.
