FC LNZ was founded on April 23, 2006. For the first decade, the team competed in the Cherkasy Oblast Championship; in 2017–2021, they played in the amateur competitions, after which they gained professional status. In two years, the club progressed through the Second and First Leagues and made their Ukrainian Premier League debut in the 2023/24 season. The 2025/26 season has so far been the most successful: in the league, LNZ share top spot in the standings with Shakhtar (both on 35 points) after 16 rounds, while the Cherkasy side have also reached the Ukrainian Cup quarter-finals, where they will face First League side Bukovyna in early March.
The head coach is 51-year-old Vitalii Ponomarov. The Ukrainian specialist took charge of the team in June 2025 and delivered a real breakthrough – from 12th spot last season to a title challenge this term. The captain is central defender Nazarii Muravskyi, a graduate of the Shakhtar Academy, who has been playing for the Cherkasy side since 2023. The top scorers are foreign players Mark Assinor (4 goals and 1 assist) and Muharrem Jashari (3 goals and 6 assists). In winter, the club completed several transfers: midfielders Yehor Tverdokhlib and Artur Mykytyshyn were signed from Kryvbas, Ghanaian winger Abdul Awudu arrived from Portugal’s Vizela, and Nigerian holding midfielder Adam Yakubu joined from Slovakia’s Trencin.
During the off-season, LNZ have already played 7 friendly matches, recording 6 wins and 1 draw. The Cherkasy outfit defeated Czech club Dukla (2-1), Poland’s Polonia (2-0), Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Sarajevo (2-1) and Željezničar (1-0), as well as Kolos twice (1-0 and 2-1), and were held only by Bulgaria’s CSKA (0-0).
