On February 13, Shakhtar played a friendly against Georgian side Rustavi

This was the second friendly of the day for the “Miners: they defeated Georgian runners-up Dila earlier (3-2). Head coach Arda Turan fielded the following line-up for the final game of the winter training camp: Riznyk took his place between the sticks, Matviienko and Bondar played in central defence, Vinicius Tobias and Pedro Henrique appeared as fullbacks, Nazaryna, Bondarenko and Marlon Gomes operated in midfield, Pedrinho and Prosper were the wingers, with Kaua Elias in the centre-forward role.

Half-time with chances and Kaua Elias’ goal

The teams started the match on end-to-end terms, taking turns controlling the ball for long periods and trying to break down the opposition’s defence with extended combinations. The Georgians relied more on long-range shots – without causing significant problems for Riznyk – while the Orange-and-Blacks operated through quick transitions. Good chances came from Kaua Elias (firing from a tight angle straight to the goalkeeper), Pedrinho (a shot from the edge of the box narrowly wide of the post) and Prosper (his cross was almost deflected into his own net by a Rustavi defender). Near the end of the half, Pedrinho had a great opportunity, but his close-range header was turned out for a corner by the goalkeeper. Shakhtar managed to open the scoring in the final attack of the half: Nazaryna delivered a free-kick, Marlon Gomes went for a diving header, Beruashvili reacted, but Kaua Elias was first to the rebound – 1-0.

Nazaryna’s free-kick goal and Kaua Elias’ brace

At the start of the second half, Kaua Elias nearly scored again, firing left-footed from outside the box – just wide of the post. The Miners created several more dangerous approaches and doubled their lead in the 65th minute from a set piece: Prosper won a free-kick on the left flank and Yehor Nazaryna curled the ball almost from the touchline into the near corner – 2-0. Next, the Brazilians produced a spectacular moment: Kaua Elias crossed to the right edge of the box, where Vinicius Tobias attempted a side scissors shot off the bounce – the Georgian goalkeeper tipped it just under the crossbar. The final phase of the match was marked by positional play, but the Pitmen still ended on a high note. In the 89th minute, Pedro Henrique delivered a delicate pass from his own half to Kaua Elias, who shrugged off his marker and slotted the ball into the near corner.

3-0 – Shakhtar secured a confident victory over Rustavi in the final friendly of the winter training camp in Türkiye.

The Miners will resume the official season on February 22 with the UPL round 17 match against Karpaty. The game will take place at the Arena Lviv, with kickoff scheduled for 15:30. Tickets for the first home match of the year are on sale at shakhtar.com.
