Shakhtar U19 captain Vasyl Bundash reflects on preparation during the training camp in Türkiye and the team’s goals for the second half of the U19 National League season
– Shakhtar U19 returned to Shchaslyve after an extended training camp in Türkiye. Can you tell us about this preparation period for the second half of the season?
– The camp was excellent and at the same time productive. We trained twice a day and completed a large volume of running work, played quite a few quality friendlies, and we are looking forward to the resumption of the season. I especially want to thank everyone for the conditions provided, as the team had everything necessary for proper preparation: high-quality football pitches, recovery facilities, good nutrition and a comfortable climate. This gives confidence and a clear understanding that we must fight solely for the title.
– During the camp, you completed a significant volume of intensive work, both physical and tactical. What was the atmosphere like within the squad?
– The atmosphere was excellent; everyone understood that we needed to endure a bit and complete a large workload. We realised that thanks to this high-quality and demanding preparation at the camp, matches in the second half of the season would be considerably easier for us.
– How would you assess the team’s and your own functional readiness?
– I believe the team are well-prepared. Personally, I feel physically excellent and confident that the work we have done was not in vain.
– During the camp, you were involved in the senior team’s training process. Can you tell us about this experience? How important was it for you?
– It was an incredible experience – to be able to be with the senior team and prove yourself. It means a lot, especially under the guidance of Arda Turan, a very passionate and demanding coach. From my side, it’s essential to continue training hard and giving everything on the pitch.
– The decisive part of the season is ahead. What are your expectations for the second half? What do you want to achieve with the team?
– We are eagerly anticipating the second half of the season. After returning to Shchaslyve, we had a few days of rest, and then resumed training. As for our goals, I want to give one hundred per cent to win the league title with the team, especially as this is my last season with Shakhtar U19. I want to give everything to claim the gold medals and, in doing so, thank the coaches. This is extremely important to me.
