Shakhtar youth team played a friendly match against Livyi Bereh-2

Shakhtar head coach Oleksii Bielik named the following starting line-up for the game against Livyi Bereh-2: Chympoiesh was in goal, Sheleketa and Strilchuk started as the full-backs, Onishchuk and Harabazhii played in central defence, Bundash, Smetana and Tsukanov formed the midfield, Zheliba and Petruk operated on the attacking flanks, with Tiutiunov taking the centre-forward position.

An active game with three goals

Shakhtar players began the match at a high tempo and in the opening stages reached the final third several times, but it did not come to a clear-cut effort on goal. Petruk was lively, constantly trying to create danger and earning a potentially dangerous set piece near the penalty area, although the Storks defenders managed to clear their lines. Soon afterwards, Livyi Bereh-2 opened the scoring: Salin surged down the right flank at pace and delivered an accurate cross to Moskun, who won the aerial challenge and headed the ball into the net. The Miners enjoyed more possession, combined well and attempted to unsettle the opposition defence. Tsukanov had the best chance to restore parity, but his effort from outside the penalty area struck the crossbar. The Storks began to respond with attacks of their own and in the 25th minute had the opportunity to double their lead after the referee awarded a penalty, however Chympoiesh was reliable and saved Shvets’ shot. Instead, four minutes later the Pitmen earned the right to take a penalty – Petruk was fouled in the penalty area, and Bundash calmly placed his shot into the corner to level the score. The closing stages of the first half were rich in goal-scoring chances, as the teams played on the counter, with the Orange-and-Blacks proving more effective: Zheliba capitalised on a goalkeeper’s mistake and put his team ahead.

Squad rotation

The second half began at a lively pace, with the opponents continuing to operate at high speed. While the Miners enjoyed territorial superiority and reached the final third more often, the Storks focused on counter-attacking play, making use of their pace on the flanks. Soon afterwards, Shakhtar U19 head coach made a number of substitutions, refreshing the line-up. The Pitmen dictated proceedings and controlled the tempo, forcing the opposition to resort to fouls in order to halt potentially dangerous attacks. Up to the final whistle, the match was played mostly in the half of Livyi Bereh-2, with the Orange-and-Blacks constantly threatening the opponents’ goal, but the visitors’ defenders acted in an organised manner.
