Four years of the full-scale invasion: Rinat Akhmetov has allocated more than UAH 13.5 billion to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and civilians

SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, Heart of Azovstal and FC Shakhtar have allocated UAH 13.5 billion (more than USD 368 million) to aid the country, its armed forces and civilians over four years of the full-scale invasion.

The key areas of assistance: support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, programmes for the defenders of Mariupol and their families, support for veterans, development of education, aid to civilians and local communities, as well as memorial and advocacy projects.

Assistance to the defenders of Ukraine is delivered systematically as part of the Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front military project. Military units nationwide receive free-of-charge ammunition, vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, medical kits, haemostatic tourniquets and other necessary items through the Steel Front. In particular, Metinvest designed and delivered more than 900 steel dugouts for frontline soldiers. Based on this technology, two underground hospitals built to NATO standards are already in operation. Additionally, the metallurgical group manufactures anti-drone protective grids made of its steel for Western and Ukrainian vehicles such as Abrams, Leopard, Bradley, m113, Kozaks and others.

DTEK has provided free electricity to more than 100 critical infrastructure facilities, including hospitals, military sites, bakeries, and water treatment plants in the Kyiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Despite daily attacks by the RF, DTEK continues to generate and distribute critically important electricity to millions of citizens, businesses and public institutions, sustaining life during wartime. Every day, DTEK Grids engineers work under shelling to restore power lines and substations damaged by the RF’s attacks. To date, they have restored electricity to more than 26 million homes in regions affected by hostilities.

The humanitarian assistance block focuses on supporting civilian Ukrainians, veterans and the defenders of Mariupol. To enhance efficiency, the resources and expertise of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation have been integrated with the Heart of Azovstal NGO, forming the centre of SCM’s charitable efforts and the core platform for programmes supporting Ukraine’s defenders.

We remind that the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has sent over 700 thousand units of medicines since the beginning of the war and more than 13 million food packages since 2014. It has launched and implemented new projects to assist in the rehabilitation of children and adults affected by shelling, provided heaters and supported the arrangement of social housing for displaced families.

Rinat Akhmetov has allocated approximately UAH 2.2 billion to the comprehensive support project for the defenders of Mariupol and their families, Heart of Azovstal.

Defenders and their families receive aid through seven programmes. In particular, the At Home programme enables defenders of Mariupol with Group I and II disabilities to receive their own housing. The plan for 2026 includes providing 100 apartments to the Mariupol’s defenders. Over three years, 400 defenders will receive homes. The project also implements the Future programme, offering comprehensive support for their adaptation to civilian life and personal fulfilment.

Shakhtar football club also provides systematic support for the development of youth football, athletes, internally displaced persons, members of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and residents of war-affected regions. The club also organised and covered all expenses for treatment of Azovstal defender, marine Mykhailo Dianov, in the United States. It took care of organizing treatment and rehabilitation of severely injured Avdiivka fighter Vitalii Shumei in Barcelona, as well as fighter and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko in Israel. It is helping with the rehabilitation of the brother of one of its players, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fighter Bohdan Kush.
