Shakhtar youth team entertained their Veres counterparts in the first competitive match of the year in Shchaslyve
The manager of the Orange-and-Blacks Oleksii Bielik fielded the following starting line-up: Bahlai was in goal, Kaliuzhnyi and Strilchuk operated as fullbacks, Mylokost and Onishchuk formed a pair of central defenders, Bundash, Balakai and Tsukanov appeared in midfield, Zubrii and Petruk took the attacking wings, with Kanteh leading the line as centre-forward.
A high-scoring, action-packed first half
The match got off to an active start, with the opener arriving in the 5th minute: Matkivskyi raced down the right flank, approached Bahlai’s goal and found the net. Zubrii had a promising chance to equalise when he faced Kharechko one-on-one after a through ball, but a last-ditch tackle from the Veres U19 defender cleared the ball from under the winger’s feet. Shortly after, the Miners stepped up their aggression and began probing for openings in the final third, eventually drawing level in the 21st minute as Bundash converted a penalty. However, the Rivne side quickly regained the lead: following a set piece and a scramble in the box, Sanotskyi fired a powerful shot into the net. In the next move, Saichyshyn came close to scoring with a long-ranger that went just centimetres over the bar, evading the defender. Both sides maintained an attacking approach, trying to threaten immediately after winning possession. In the 35th minute, the Pitmen executed a sharp combination move, finished neatly by Balakai. Towards the end of the half, the Miners dominated possession on Veres’ half and converted another chance with a long-range shot from Strilchuk.
A battle-filled half
The second half began with numerous challenges across the pitch and many fouls, but little threat near either goal. Gradually, the Miners gained the initiative and territorial advantage. Shakhtar U19 created most of their chances through quick combinations, while the Rivne side relied on set pieces. In the 72nd minute, coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Oleksii Bielik made a decisive substitution: Harmash replaced Zubrii and needed only a few minutes to find the net. Towards the end of the match, the Miners controlled proceedings and saw the game through to a logical conclusion.
4-2 – Shakhtar U19 started the second half of the championship with a win over Veres U19. The Miners will face Oleksandriia U19 in the next round on March 5.
