On February 3, Shakhtar played a friendly against German side SG Sonnenhof Großaspach

Arda Turan selected the following starting line-up for the first test game at the winter training camp: Fesiun took his place between the sticks, Petriak and Azarov appeared at full-back, Matviienko and Ghram were in central defence, Nazaryna, Marlon Gomes and Isaque played in midfield, Lucas and Newertton ran the wings, with Kaua Elias spearheading the attack.

The first half focused on adaptation

The clash began somewhat unexpectedly for the Pitmen. As early as the 2nd minute, German midfielder Kunde intercepted a pass from Fesiun in the penalty area and, without hesitation, slotted the ball into an empty net to open the scoring. It took the Miners some time to find their rhythm after a one-and-a-half-month break and get their combinations working. In the 15th minute, they created their first chance: Lucas won the ball on the edge of the opponents’ penalty area and immediately shot – slightly over the bar. Midway through the half, the opposition again nearly scored from virtually nothing, when a cross from a corner and a series of deflections saw the ball hit the crossbar. In the 30th minute, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made their first substitutions, bringing on Konoplia, Ocheretko and Meirelles. Shakhtar continued to control the game and look for ways to break down the opposition, but they were unable to create any truly dangerous opportunities. The highlights of the match were saved for the second half.

Prosper earned a penalty, Pedrinho scored the first goal of the year

At half-time, Arda Turan made a series of substitutions. Bondar, Pedro Henrique, Kryskiv and Bondarenko came on, while Alisson returned after nearly five months of recovery, and Prosper Obah made his debut in the Miners’ jersey. The Nigerian newcomer was the most active player on the pitch, constantly looking to create danger near the opponents’ goal. Unsurprisingly, he played a key role in Shakhtar’s first goal of 2026. Goalkeeper Tvardovskyi played a perfect ball out to Prosper on the left flank, who drove into the penalty area in trademark style before being fouled by a German defender. Pedrinho confidently converted the resulting penalty into the bottom-right corner in the 71st minute, equalising the score – 1-1. Immediately afterwards, Pedro Henrique had the chance to put the Pitmen ahead, but his shot missed the target. Towards the end of the match, Obah himself almost scored from a left-wing cross, but both of his attempts were saved by the goalkeeper. The opponents, however, made the most of their opportunity: in the 88th minute Maier scored the second goal after intercepting near the penalty area. 1–2 – Shakhtar lose their first friendly at the winter training camp.

On Thursday, February 5, the Miners face their next friendly – against Latvian champions Riga FC. The game kick off at 16:00 Kyiv time All friendlies of the Orange-and-Blacks at the training camp are streamed on Shakhtar’s YouTube channel and FC Shakhtar mobile app (App Store and Google Play) in the Live section.
