Shakhtar youth team played friendly matches against Tromsø U19 and Vejle U19
Shakhtar U19 continue active preparation for the second part of the season on their training camp in Türkiye, training twice a day and working on all aspects of the game. In addition, Oleksii Bielik’s lads completed a week-long training cycle with friendly matches.
On Saturday, February 7, the Miners played test games in different line-ups against Tromsø U19 and Vejle U19.
Shakhtar Donetsk U19 2-1 (2-1) Tromsø U19 (Norway)
The Miners held territorial advantage throughout the match and pressed the opponents’ goal, creating numerous chances, yet it were Tromsø U19 who opened the scoring following a swift counter-attack. The opponents played aggressively in their pressing, often resulting in set pieces, which the Miners fully capitalised on: first, Smetana scored with a precise shot over the wall into the top corner, and later Tsukanov converted a penalty to secure the final score.
Shakhtar U19 line-up: Bahlai (Kicha, 70′), Strilchuk, Mylokost, Kostiuk, Bundash (c) (Balakai, 70′), Harmash, Kaliuzhnyi, Derykon (Petruk, 70′), Tsukanov, Smetana (Tiutiunov, 70′), Zubrii
Shakhtar U19 Donetsk 1-1 (0-0) Vejle U19 (Denmark)
For the second match of the day, Shakhtar U19 coach made extensive changes to the line-up. The Orange-and-Blacks attacked actively and created numerous scoring chances, taking the lead early in the second half when Tverdokhlib capitalised on a defensive error and fired a precise shot into the goal. The opponents, however, mostly played a physical style and equalised in the 72nd minute.

I’m pleased with the match against Tromsø U19 because we controlled the game and the opponents barely threatened us, hardly even entering the central part of the pitch
Oleksii Bielik, Shakhtar U19 head coach:
– I’m pleased with the match against Tromsø U19 because we controlled the game and the opponents barely threatened us, hardly even entering the central part of the pitch. However, they were very physically strong and played in a somewhat unusual formation. We pinned them in their own half, but the pitch was not in the best condition, which made it difficult to show our style of play through ball control, passing and speed. The opponents fouled very often, targeting the legs, and we managed to score twice from set pieces: first, Smetana struck the top corner, and later Tsukanov, using individual skill, beat the opponents, earned a penalty, and converted it. It was unfortunate to concede beforehand, but that happens when a team dominate possession and is caught on a counter-attack. We created many chances but did not convert them all. We have time to work on these aspects. Regarding the match against Vejle U19, I’m also satisfied. We created plenty of scoring opportunities and, by pressing at the start of the second half, caught the opponents out of position, with Tverdokhlib converting the chance. The only negative was that the opponents fouled a lot and played roughly. In those moments, we need to be more mature and engage in challenges, playing on the edge without letting ourselves be provoked. We must increase our aggressiveness.
In the final week of the training camp in Türkiye, the Miners will play friendlies against Luzern U19 and Samtredia.
