On February 7, Shakhtar played a friendly against Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi
Arda Turan chose the following starting line-up for the third friendly of the winter break: Riznyk returned to goal, Matviienko and Ghram were the centre-backs, Vinicius Tobias and Azarov operated on the flanks, Marlon Gomes, Bondarenko and Pedrinho started in midfield, Lucas and Eguinaldo played as wingers, with Kaua Elias leading the line as centre-forward.
First half sees five goals and Shakhtar in the lead
The match did not start according to the Orange-and-Blacks plan: as in the previous game, they conceded a goal already in the 2nd minute – after a pass from the right flank, Giorgi Kharebashvili volleyed into the left corner. The Pitmen immediately went on the attack – dangerous attempts came from Lucas (saved by the goalkeeper) and Pedrinho (over the crossbar and just wide of the post). In the 17th minute, the pressure paid off: Eguinaldo on the left side of the box beat his marker and delivered a pass to the centre, where Kaua Elias finished it into the near corner – 1-1. And already in the 21st minute, Arda Turan’s side were ahead: under pressure from the same Kaua Elias, the Georgian defender Ugrekhelidze made such a poor back pass to his goalkeeper that the ball ended up in the net – 2-1. In the middle of the half, the game calmed down, and the next period was dominated by positional play. However, closer to half-time, the teams became active again and exchanged goals. In the 41st minute, Osei capitalised on a mistake by the Pitmen in their own half and chipped Riznyk from distance to level the score. Shortly after, Marlon Gomes broke down the left flank into the penalty area, where he was brought down by an opponent, and Artem Bondarenko fired a powerful shot into the bottom right corner past the Tbilisi keeper. 3-2 – Shakhtar led at half-time.
Demolition job in just half an hour, Prosper’s first goal and Nazaryna’s brace
After the break, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made five substitutions: Tvardovskyi, Bondar, Konoplia, Pedro Enrique and Nazaryna came on. And it was the fresh players who, set up the fourth goal right at the start of the second half: in the 48th minute, Pedro Henrique delivered a pass to Yehor Nazaryna, who struck a powerful diagonal shot from outside the box into the right corner – 4-2. Just two minutes later, the Orange-and-Blacks increased the lead: A slick move involving half the team ended with Marlon Gomes laying the ball off and Lucas slotting a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box into the near post – 5-2. After that, Arda Turan made another six changes: Faryna, Isaque, Hlushchenko, Newertton, Prosper and Meirelles entered the field. In the 63rd minute, the Pitmen scored again: Pedro Henrique delivered a cross from the left, with Prosper Obah heading the ball under the bar to score his first goal for Shakhtar. After such a frantic start, the tempo of the game dropped slightly, although the Ukrainian side continued to fully control the game. A few more dangerous forays by the Miners at the opponents’ goal came to nothing, while Dinamo reached Tvardovskyi’s goal only a handful of times and caused no problems for the Pitmen’s defence or keeper. However, the Orange-and-Blacks put the seal on the friendly at the end of the match: in the 87th minute, Yehor Nazaryna curled a direct free-kick from the left corner of the penalty area perfectly under the near post.
7-2 – Shakhtar claim a brilliant and convincing victory over Dinamo Tbilisi in their third test game at winter training camp.
The Miners will play their next friendly against LNZ Cherkasy on Tuesday, February 10. The game kicks off at 16:00 Kyiv time. All friendly games of the Orange-and-Blacks are streamed on Shakhtar’s YouTube channel and the FC Shakhtar mobile app (App Store and Google Play) in the Live section.
