Shakhtar women’s team footballers began their participation in the friendly tournament dedicated to the memory of footballer Viktoriia Kotliarova (Chornovil) with a win over Yunist

On February 8, Shakhtar women’s team began their participation in the friendly tournament dedicated to the memory of Viktoriia Kotliarova (Chornovil), who died as a result of Russian aggression and the shelling of Kyiv at the end of December 2023, with a match against Yunist Chernihiv.

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Roman Zaiev selected the following starting line-up: Ustinova was in goal, Henyk, Balatska, Shevtsova and Pipchenko formed the defence line, Kuksа, Myronenko and Starukhina were in midfield, Holovach (c) and Vykaliuk operated on the wings of the attack, with Chaika playing in the centre of the attack.

Control of the game from the first minutes

Shakhtar footballers started the match with rapid attacks and managed to take a comfortable lead from the outset: first, Holovach scored with an effective shot, and five minutes later, Vykaliuk finished an attack down the right flank. The Orange-and-Blacks held territorial dominance and did not allow their opponents to get close to Ustinova’s goal. It did not take long for Shakhtar to increase the score: after a corner routine, Balatska threatened Yunist’s goal with a header, but her attempt was timely blocked by the defenders; however, Myronenko was first to react to the rebound and struck firmly into the bottom corner. Despite their significant advantage, the Miners did not slow down and continued playing fluidly near the penalty area, orchestrating another productive attack that ended with a shot from Chaika. Yunist operated with a low block, trying to resist Shakhtar’s pressure, but in the 24th minute Vykaliuk delivered a precise pass to Chaika, splitting the opponents’ defence, and the forward comfortably extended the lead from close range. Closer to the end of the half, the Miners scored twice more – through Pipchenko and Starukhina.

High tempo game with plenty of goals

After the break, Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev, as usual, made changes to the line-up to give as many footballers as possible playing time. The second half, like the first, began with initiative and a quick goal, as Druzhchenko, finding herself in the penalty area, beat the goalkeeper. Soon after, Liakhovych had a chance to extend the lead following a lofted cross, but the midfielder lacked accuracy. The next attacks proved productive: first, following a corner routine, Yunist’s forward Namazova deflected the ball into her own net, and a minute later, capitalising on an interception, Liakhovych scored from her opportunity. After this, the tempo eased slightly, and the opponents tried to get close to Karban’s goal, but Shakhtar defenders quickly closed the spaces and blocked these attempts. Taking control of the ball, the Orange-and-Blacks continued to destabilise the defence through the flanks, and Shevtsova, with an impressive long-ranger that lobbed the goalkeeper, increased Shakhtar’s advantage. The Miners pressed high and quickly regained possession after losing the ball. It was after successful work on the follow-up that Zavidova and Druzhchenko scored, putting the final seal on the match.

13-0 – Shakhtar women’s team defeated Yunist in the first game of the friendly tournament dedicated to the memory of Viktoriia Kotliarova (Chornovil). Shakhtar’s next match in the tournament is against DYuSSh Podil on February 11.
