Shakhtar women’s team faced Polissia in their first pre-season friendly
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following line-up for the friendly game against Polissia: Karban was in goal, Lutsan, Henyk and Kravchuk operated in defence, Sikorska, Kotovets, Kuksa and Myronenko appeared in midfield, Holovach and Vykaliuk played on the flanks, with Chaika spearheading the attack.
Shakhtar took an assertive start and dominated
The match began at a lively pace, with both teams exchanging early goals. First, Vykaliuk intercepted the ball and launched a rapid attack down the right flank, during which Sikorska delivered a precise pass to Myronenko who finished perfectly into the top corner. Polissia immediately responded with increased aggression, quickly restoring parity after a well-worked combination finished by Martseniuk. The high tempo continued, with both teams producing an end-to-end display, but the Orange-and-Blacks posed the greater threat. In the 16th minute, Kuksa could have put her teammates ahead, but her long-ranger struck the crossbar. Subsequent attacks from Shakhtar proved fruitful: first, Kotovets finished a brilliantly constructed move, and a little later, Lutsan made the most of her opportunity, skilfully beating defenders in the penalty area and leaving the goalkeeper no chance. The Miners gradually asserted territorial dominance and, by the end of the first half, which was full of goalscoring opportunities, converted it into goals from Vykaliuk and Chaika. Meanwhile, the Zhytomyr side found the net after Tarakanova curled a shot from a set piece.
Squad rotation
At halftime, Shakhtar head coach Roman Zaiev made the usual squad rotation to give as many players as possible playing time. The second half began with a chance for Shakhtar, but the visitors’ defence blocked the dangerous shot. The Miners maintained the initiative and, despite significant pressure, prevented Polissia from creating chances near Karban’s goal. In the 64th minute, they launched a successful attack down the left flank, which Chendei finished with a precise shot. The tempo of the game then eased somewhat, with both teams contesting possession across the pitch, but no further clear chances were created.
6-2 – Shakhtar women’s team secured a convincing victory over Polissia in their first pre-season match. Next week, on February 8, the Orange-and-Blacks will face Yunist in a friendly in Shchaslyve.
