Shakhtar youth team drew with Bratslav in a friendly
Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik named the following starting line-up for the side's first pre-season friendly against Bratslav: Chympoiesh was in goal, Sheleketa, Verhun, Harabazhii and Reshetnikov formed the defence, Davydenko, Yushchenko and Tiutiunov started in midfield, Zubrii and Petruk operated on the wings, with Lomaha leading the line.
A strong start and Lomaha's finishing
The Orange-and-Blacks made a bright start and took the lead in the opening minute. Lomaha finished off a move to put his side ahead. After the early goal, the Miners continued to control the game, enjoying more possession and patiently looking for openings in the opposition defence. Their dominance produced a second goal in the 20th minute. Lomaha drove forward with the ball before picking out Tiutiunov with a perfectly timed pass, and the midfielder made no mistake. The Pitmen remained on the front foot, applying sustained pressure in the opposition half. It was only towards the end of the first half that Bratslav managed to push the game away from their own goal and venture forward more frequently. However, Shakhtar U21 defended well and prevented their opponents from creating any danger in the final third. Long-rangers and set pieces also failed to trouble the hosts.
Extensive squad rotation
As is customary during pre-season and in friendly matches, Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik made wholesale changes at half-time to ensure as many players as possible received playing minutes and the necessary workload. The second half began with a tactical battle, and the sides exchanged efforts early on without creating any real danger. Bratslav had their best chance to reduce the deficit in the 60th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. However, Kicha guessed the direction of Korieshkov's penalty and saved it, while the visitors were also unable to beat the goalkeeper from the rebound. Bratslav eventually pulled one back in the 70th minute after a prolonged scramble in the Orange-and-Blacks’ box saw the ball end up in the net. The sides then exchanged several promising attacks, but the closing stages were played mainly in the Pitmen’s half, with the visitors proving more clinical as they earned a high-scoring draw after the trialist beat Torkhov with a powerful strike.
