Shakhtar women’s team faced Polissia away in the opening match of the Prime League
Head coach Roman Zaiev named the following starting line-up for the Orange-and-Blacks' first game of the new season: Ustinova started in goal, Sikorska, Balatska, Henyk and Kotovets formed the back four, Myronenko, Kuksa and Veherych lined up in midfield, Holovach and Marchenko operated on the wings, with Druzhchenko leading the attack.
Difficult start to the season
The hosts made a flying start, taking the lead with their first attacking move. After a move down the flank and a pass into the centre, Tarakanova found the net with a first-time finish. Polissia then looked to keep hold of the ball and threatened Ustinova's goal more frequently, but the Orange-and-Blacks blocked the opponents' attacks and responded with moves of their own. However, it was the Wolves who came closest to doubling their lead. First, Ustinova denied Savka from a corner, before the post came to Shakhtar's rescue after Tarakanova struck from a loose ball. The hosts eventually doubled their advantage with their next attack. Kozishkurt picked up the ball just outside Shakhtar’s penalty area and rolled it into Tarakanova, who used her body to hold off her marker before turning and firing past Ustinova.
Mokhnach's return
Shakhtar made the brighter start to the second half, immediately pressing their opponents in the hope of forcing a mistake. Polissia also looked for ways to move the ball forward, relying mainly on attacks down the flanks. On the hour mark, Shakhtar made a substitution as Mokhnach returned to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Shortly afterwards, Polissia were awarded a penalty after Balatska brought down Kornatska in the box. Kornatska made no mistake, sending the ball into the corner of the net. Nataliia completed her brace just two minutes later. Levytska's pass from deep released Mushchenska, whose effort struck the crossbar, before Kornatska reacted quickest to the rebound and found the net. The closing stages were fiercely contested, but neither side created any clear-cut chances. 0-4 – Shakhtar women’s team lost to Polissia in their opening match of the season.
On July 24, the Orange-and-Blacks will host Kolos at the Arsenal Arena in Shchaslyve in their next Prime League fixture. The match kicks off at 12:00.
