On July 19, the Miners played a pre-season match against Croatian side Rudes
Arda Turan selected the following starting line-up for the first friendly of the summer pre-season: Tvardovskyi was in goal, Karavaiev (on the left) and Vinicius Tobias (on the right) started in the full-back positions, Ghram and Matviienko were in central defence, Nazaryna and Tsukanov operated in midfield, while the attacking quartet consisted of Alisson, Lucas, Prosper and Meirelles.
Dominant display and Nazaryna's opener
Shakhtar made a highly energetic start and spent almost the entire time in the opposition half from the opening minutes. The Orange-and-Blacks played fluidly around the Croatian side's penalty area and, whenever they lost possession, immediately applied aggressive pressure. That led to the opening goal in the 18th minute: Alisson won the ball with a sliding tackle and knocked it into the path of Tsukanov, who was fouled just outside the penalty area; Yehor Nazaryna curled the resulting free-kick inside the near right post to make it 1-0. Arda Turan's side kept up the pressure on the Zagreb outfit and created several more chances. From Nazaryna's corner, Alisson arrived at the far post but missed an open goal. Moments later, Tsukanov met Prosper's low cross, but the Rudes goalkeeper made the save. Nazaryna could have completed a brace, but the crossbar denied him from another free-kick. The Croatians had their chance late in the first half, but a long-range effort went just wide of the Pitmen's post.
Bruninho's brace and goals from Newertton and Pedrinho sealed the rout
At half-time, Shakhtar's coaching staff made a number of changes: defenders Bondar, Azarov and Gocholeishvili, midfielders Marlon Gomes, Pedrinho and Newertton, new signings Ryan Roberto and Bruninho, and striker Kaua Elias all came on. The Brazilians immediately added pace to the attack and created several chances: Bruninho's dangerous low cross went unfinished, while Newertton's effort was blocked by the defenders. The Pitmen doubled their lead in the 58th minute. Bruninho received the ball on the right flank, cut inside and, from almost the edge of the penalty area, placed his shot inside the near post to make it 2-0. And in the 64th minute, the score became lopsided: Pedrinho drove into the box from the right and squared the ball into the centre, where Newertton beat the goalkeeper with a first-time finish – 3-0. The Ukrainian champions were not done yet and struck again in the 73rd minute: a fine move down the left ended with Ryan Roberto's pass from the byline and Pedrinho's accurate finish for 4-0. Marlon Gomes also came close, but the goalkeeper pushed away his powerful long-range effort, while Ryan Roberto fired over from the middle of the penalty area. Another newcomer then completed a brace: in the 79th minute, Marlon Gomes won possession in his own half, Pedrinho sent Bruninho clear, with the forward calmly beating the goalkeeper.
