Shakhtar defender Valerii Bondar shared his thoughts on the friendly against Bursaspor and summed up the team’s summer training camp
– Valerii, Shakhtar’s friendly against Bursaspor was very different from the previous ones – an incredible atmosphere and an amazing stadium. Tell us about your impressions. What was this match like for the team and what emotions did you take away from it?
– It really was a fantastic atmosphere, the kind you always get at super matches in Türkiye and in Champions League games. I think the boss wanted to prepare us for that incredible support from the fans when we play away from home, so we need to get used to it step by step. We all know what the support is like in Türkiye, so having 40,000 fans at the match and a packed stadium was fantastic. You really enjoy playing in that kind of atmosphere.
– Bursaspor earned promotion from the TFF 2. Lig to the TFF 1. Lig last season. How did you find the opposition?
– You could tell that Bursaspor are a good side, so the club is probably on the right track. You can also tell from the quality of their footballers and the way the team play. The coach clearly knows what he wants, and the players are trying to put his ideas into practice on the pitch. I think we deserved the win a little more, but hopefully we'll save the goals and the victories for the Ukrainian Premier League and the Champions League.
– We can now sum up the work done during the training camp. What are your conclusions?
– The training camp went well, we prepared properly and had some good friendlies. We need to go out for the first competitive matches and prove we are worthy champions.
