Shakhtar Social, together with For A New Tomorrow (FANT), continues to support the development of amputee football in Ukraine

The latest step within the partnership is the creation and support of a team in Mykolaiv. This is already the second amputee football team operating with the support of the Ukrainian and Danish foundations. The project aims to support the sporting, social and psychological rehabilitation of veterans.

Shakhtar Stalevi head coach Bohdan Bilko and captain Denys Volynets travelled to Mykolaiv to share their experience. They conducted a training session, spoke with the veterans and shared practical experience of preparation and competing at national level.

Andrii Zhovzherenko, veteran and amputee football coach in Mykolaiv:

– It has been a great day because the coach and the lads from Shakhtar Stalevi came to visit us, and we held a training session together, which I really enjoyed. This initiative is important both for the lads who were injured as a result of the war and are undergoing rehabilitation and for Mykolaiv. We need to keep training, keep progressing and one day take part in the Ukrainian Amputee Football Championship.

It is important that Mykolaiv team player Serhii Yevtushenko previously made his debut for Shakhtar Stalevi in matches of the Ukrainian Amputee Football Championship. This once again confirms that initiatives like this create opportunities for athletes to develop and help veterans become part of the wider football community.

Serhii Yevtushenko, veteran:

– It is extremely important that this opportunity has become available in our region. For people with disabilities, it is not only an additional form of rehabilitation but also a source of inspiration and strength. When I learned that the team had been formed, I immediately knew I had to give it a go and join it.

In Mykolaiv, the project is supported by the local authorities and the regional football association, helping to develop amputee football in the region.
