Shakhtar midfielder Yehor Nazaryna shared his thoughts on the first part of the summer training camp
– Yehor, the first week of work is behind you. Can you tell us about these opening days of the training camp in Slovenia?
– To be honest, they have been challenging days. We have just returned from our break and immediately started having two or three training sessions a day. There has been a lot of fitness work and a lot of running. So it has not been easy, but we are trying to get back into shape as quickly as possible.
– What are the coaching staff focusing on?
– We have been doing both conditioning and tactical work. In the mornings, we have mainly focused on physical preparation, while in the evenings we have worked with the ball.
– Can you tell our fans about the team’s testing?
– The tests are the usual ones: there was the so-called lactate test in the first week, which is a very demanding one. Other than that, there were no more tests, just running work.
– Are you happy with your test result and your physical condition after the first week of the training camp?
– I’m happy with the test result, but there is always room for improvement. As for my fitness, I’m obviously not at my best yet as we have only completed the first week of the training camp. I hope to be in optimal physical shape closer to the start of the championship.
– What is Arda Turan demanding from you?
– For now, he is demanding that we run, run and run some more because we are laying the foundations of our physical preparation, which we will rely on throughout the entire season. So it has been an important week and we have worked hard. However, we work with the ball and do a lot of tactical work in the evenings – this is also an important aspect that we focus on.
– Last summer in Slovenia, you also did a lot of running work with Arda Turan and the training process was quite similar. Did you feel that it helped you significantly throughout the season?
– Of course. I believe we laid a good foundation during the summer. We had a lot of matches then, if I remember correctly, we played eight games in European competition qualifying, but we built that foundation and carried it with us throughout the entire season. As a result, we were well prepared and, in my opinion, we were not physically inferior to any team. So, I will say it again, this is very important work.
– Given such an intensive schedule at the training camp, how do you recover?
– We recover with the help of our staff, including the masseurs and rehabilitation specialists. We have everything we need for recovery: from cold water and massages to various treatments. Everything is good in that regard. We have time to recover, and everything is in place to help us do so.
– And finally, what are your goals and the team’s goals for the upcoming season?
– We are Shakhtar and we always have the highest ambitions: to win every competition we take part in – the league and the Ukrainian Cup, of course, and we also want to go as far as possible in the Champions League. I believe we are capable of achieving that and we are preparing for it. My personal goal is to help the team achieve positive results as much as possible.
