Shakhtar Social and FANT are implementing initiatives to support veterans and civilians with limb amputations

In partnership with the Danish organisation FANT (For A New Tomorrow), Shakhtar Social continues to support veterans and civilians with limb amputations in Ukraine. The project combines regular amputee football training with psychological support, helping participants adapt physically, psychologically and socially.

This week in Chernihiv, training sessions and a psychological support workshop were held for new members of the team and the coaching staff. During the meeting, participants discussed self-motivation in sport, the coach's role both on and off the pitch, as well as ways to achieve their goals and overcome self-doubt.

Mykhailo Yarmoshenko, the project's coach in Chernihiv:

– Initiatives like this are extremely important for our veterans, as they support both their psychological and physical rehabilitation. Amputee football helps people return to an active life, feel the support of their teammates, and keep moving forward.

Following the meeting with the psychologist, the team took part in a football training session led by Shakhtar Stalevi head coach Bohdan Bilko.

Bohdan Bilko, Shakhtar Stalevi head coach:

– Psychological support is just as important as training on the pitch. Every player has been through difficult life circumstances, so it is vital for them to regain confidence in themselves and feel supported. When a person feels psychologically comfortable, it is reflected in their confidence and actions, which has a positive impact on how they see the future.

The collaboration between Shakhtar Social and FANT (For A New Tomorrow) has been ongoing since 2024 and is dedicated to the development of amputee football in Ukraine. Through this partnership, teams in Chernihiv and Mykolaiv now have the facilities and support they need to train and develop.
