The Shakhtar academy graduate returns to the Donetsk club
34-year-old defender Oleksandr Karavaiev has joined the Miners as a free agent. The player's contract will run until June 30, 2028.
Oleksandr Karavaiev began his football journey at the Shakhtar Academy, where he played for the club's youth teams, as well as Shakhtar-3 in the Second League, from 2005 to 2011. He then spent loan spells with Sevastopol (2012–2014), Zorya (2014–2016) and Turkish side Fenerbahçe (2017). In the summer of 2017, he joined Zorya Luhansk on a permanent basis, before playing for Dynamo Kyiv from 2019 to 2026. Overall, he has made 455 official appearances at club level, scoring 57 goals and providing 65 assists. Since October 2015, he has been a member of the Ukraine national team, making 50 appearances (3 goals, 13 assists).
