Shakhtar women’s team faced Metalist 1925 on the Vyshcha League first stage MD17
Head coach Roman Zaiev named the following starting line-up: Ustinova took the place between the sticks, Kotovets and Sikorska operated as fullbacks, Kravchuk and Henyk appeared at centre-back, Kuksa, Myronenko and Starukhina formed the midfield, Holovach and Marchenko took the attacking wings, with Chaika spearheading the attack.
A tough start
The Kharkiv side took the lead inside the first minute: Podolska raced down the right flank, entered the penalty area and delivered a cross for Apanashchenko, who finished first-time. Metalist 1925 seized the initiative, controlling possession on the visitors’ half and periodically threatening Ustinova’s goal. In the 13th minute, the hosts doubled their advantage: Basanska played a delicate pass to Apanashchenko in the box, who turned and curled the ball into the far corner. Shortly after, Petryk could have increased the lead – her long-range effort rattled the crossbar. Shakhtar focused on defensive play, trying to reach the final third with long balls, but the opponents positioned themselves well and blocked every attempt. Before half-time, following another attack, Metalist 1925 once again turned their pressure into a goal: Shainiuk won the challenge in the goal area and headed past Ustinova with no chance of a save.
Dynamic action
After the break, Shakhtar coach made a change: Druzhchenko came on for Starukhina. In the second half, the Miners stepped up, and Henyk had her chance – a long-range effort went wide. Following a corner for the Kharkiv side, Kotyk rose dangerously but headed over the bar. The game then settled into a positional battle, before Shakhtar reduced the deficit: Chaika produced a spectacular free-kick, lifting the ball over the wall and into the very top corner. The final stage of the match was played at a high tempo, end-to-end, but no further goals came.
1-3 – Shakhtar women’s team lost to the league leaders. On March 16, the Orange-and-Blacks will host Kryvbas.
