Shakhtar youth team hosted their Metalist 1925 U19 counterparts in the U19 National League round 20

Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik named the following line-up for the game against Metalist 1925: Bahlai took his place in goal, Kostiuk Mylokost, Onishchuk and Kaliuzhnyi formed the back line, Bundash, Smetana and Tsukanov were in midfield, Petruk and Lomaha operated on the flanks of the attack, while Kanteh took the central forward position.

Few chances amid plenty of battles

The opening stages were marked by a fight for the ball across the pitch, with neither side holding a clear advantage. As early as the 8th minute, Oleksii Bielik was forced into a substitution: Sheleketa came on to replace Petruk, who had picked up an injury. Gradually, the Miners increased the tempo and began reaching the final third more frequently. The first dangerous moment came from a corner when a scramble broke out in the goal area, but the Metalist 1925 U19 defenders cleared the danger. A few minutes later, after Kanteh’s pass across, Lomaha shot on goal, but Tomin reacted in time to the effort. The Kharkiv side responded with a set piece near the Orange-and-Blacks’ penalty area that ended with Zasovitskyi’s shot flying over the target. Both teams traded potentially dangerous attacks, though without serious threats on goal. Eventually, near the end of the half, the Miners finished a prolonged attack with Bundash’s powerful strike just under the crossbar, but Tomin dived to parry the shot.

Crucial goals from Kanteh and Zubrii

The second half began with a golden chance for Shakhtar U19 when Kaliuzhnyi burst down the flank at pace, beat his opponents and delivered a low cross into the finishing area for Kanteh – once again Tomin saved the Kharkiv side from conceding. In the next sequence, the Pitmen side finally turned their efforts into a goal: Lomaha’s precise pass from the right flank found Kanteh, who finished with a first-time touch. The Orange-and-Blacks looked sharper and kept trying to stretch the opposition defence in search of space. In the 64th minute, Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik refreshed the line-up with a double substitution: Tiutiunov and Balakai entered the pitch. As in the first half, the Kharkiv side mostly threatened from set pieces, and Karpizin had a great chance to level the score, but his effort went just wide of the post. Towards the end, Metalist 1925 U19 stepped up the pressure, used the flanks and threatened Bahlai’s goal, but none of Usiienko’s teammates got on the end of his extremely dangerous cross. Oleksii Bielik responded with a decisive substitution: Zubrii came on and needed only a minute to double the Orange-and-Blacks’ advantage and put the finishing touch on the match.

2-0 – Shakhtar U19 defeated Metalist 1925 in a home match. On March 21, the Miners will play away against their Zorya counterparts.
