Shakhtar Stalevi claimed silver in the first-ever Ukrainian Amputee Football Cup

On March 22, after two weeks of play-offs in the inaugural Ukrainian Cup organised by the Ukrainian Association of Football as part of the League of the Mighty social project, Shakhtar Stalevi took part in the Final Four. The event took place in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, where the team faced Bartka and Pokrova AMP in the battle for the trophy.

Bartka Ivano-Frankivsk 0:1 (0-0, 0-0, 0-1 aet.) Shakhtar Stalevi Donetsk

Shakhtar Stalevi faced Bartka in the semi-finals. The opponents started with dangerous chances, and in the 3rd minute the hosts could have taken the lead after a cross from Haponchuk into the penalty area, but Utynkevych was a few centimetres short of reaching the ball. The Miners responded with a long-ranger from Mykhasiuk and his shot following a corner, but the score remained unchanged. Soon after, Utynkevych failed to convert a good chance, striking the crossbar after a cross from the flank. The second half was evenly contested, but without clear chances, and no goals were scored. The match went into extra time. The Orange-and-Blacks were more active, and in the 63rd minute, after a delivery from Volynets from the touchline, the ball deflected off a defender and went into Bartka’s net.

Goal: 0-1 Utynkevych (63′, og)

Shakhtar Stalevi: Semeniuk, Mykhasiuk, Klymchuk (c), Volynets, Nedzelskyi, Ivashchenko, Artiukh

Pokrova AMP Lviv (2-0) Shakhtar Stalevi Donetsk

Shakhtar Stalevi faced Pokrova AMP in the final clash. The opening minutes were spent battling for initiative without any clear chances. Gradually, the Lviv side took control of the ball and more frequently reached the final third, periodically threatening Semeniuk’s goal. The Pitmen defended in an organised manner and looked to respond with quick counterattacks. In the second half, Pokrova AMP became more dangerous, testing Shakhtar’s defence. In the 40th minute, Hatala found himself in a shooting position and opened the scoring with a powerful shot. In stoppage time, Hatala completed his brace following a set piece.

Goals: 1-0 Hatala (40′), 2-0 Hatala (50+2′)

Shakhtar Stalevi: Semeniuk, Mykhasiuk, Klymchuk, Romaniuk, Artiukh, Nedzelskyi (c), Volynets

Bohdan Bilko, head coach:

– I’m pleased with how the team showed their desire to win, fought for every moment, remained united and gained invaluable experience. In addition, the players demonstrated psychological resilience in critical minutes, particularly in the semi-final clash with Bartka, where one mistake decided the outcome. We had to defend a lot, but in the second half we were more active. In the final game against Pokrova AMP, the footballers held on well and followed the instructions, but fatigue took its toll, and two mistakes on our part led to conceded goals. This is important experience, a good period and preparation for the Ukrainian league. The team will continue training as usual.
