Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev reflects on the match against Seasters, the tight schedule and preparation for the clash with Kolos
– Considering the preparation, attitude and desire, I have no complaints about the girls. They did everything possible and understood the importance of this fixture. Let us be honest: the level of individual skill of Seasters players, perhaps, slightly higher. Unforced errors and technical quality influenced the final result. We must keep working and prepare for the match against Kolos. We understand that it will be uncompromising.
– Shakhtar women’s team have a busy fixture schedule. Does this affect the squad’s physical condition?
– In any team, there is a group of footballers who carry the main responsibility for the quality of play and results. We understand this and try to ensure they are not overworked, as well as to implement rotation. In the match against Seasters, we made changes in defence compared to the previous game against Vorskla. Young players are periodically given minutes to gain experience, and this requires time.
– There is a match against Kolos this Sunday. What will the preparation be like and what are your expectations?
– We need to prepare in such a way that we perform properly, taking into account a result that will affect both our psychological state and league position. Kolos are a team with clear objectives and they work towards achieving them. Overall, the entire club is aiming to reach the European zone. They are a difficult, high-tempo opponents, and most importantly, they show a level of persistence that many teams lack.
