Shakhtar women's team faced Kolos on the Vyshcha League second stage MD3
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following line-up for the clash with Kolos: Ustinova was in goal, Pipcheko, Henyk, Balatska and Kotovets formed the defence, Myronenko, Starukhina and Chaika played in midfield, Marchenko and Holovach operated on the attacking wings, with Druzhchenko leading the line.
A difficult start
The opening spell passed in a battle for the initiative, with a slight advantage for the hosts. The first dangerous moment came in the 10th minute, when Kotiash, with a delicate pass, put Tian through on goal, but Ustinova reacted to the forward’s effort. Eventually, in the 17th minute, the scoring in the match was opened: Semkiv won an aerial duel and played a pass to Ostapiv, who avoided the offside trap and converted her chance. Shakhtar head coach responded with a substitution – Kuksa came on in place of Pipchenko. Kovalivka enjoyed more possession and reached shooting positions more often. In the 31st minute, Kotiash could have doubled Kolos’s advantage after a diagonal delivery and a header, but Ustinova was reliable once again. However, four minutes later the hosts scored again: Kohut was first to the loose ball after a series of rebounds from Kotiash’s effort and hit the target with a precise shot. Towards the end of the half, the Miners operated in Kolos’s half and attempted shots from distance, but they were unable to reduce the deficit.
An attempt to come back
At the start of the second half, the teams did not force the pace and tried to settle in possession. In the 53rd minute, the Shakhtar coaching staff made a substitution: Lutsan came on in place of Starukhina, who had picked up an injury. Shakhtar players reached Keliushyk’s goal more often, but their efforts were blocked by Kolos’s defenders. Myronenko was active: first she shot firmly from distance over the target, and in the next moment, she did pull one back with a goal after Marchenko’s lay-off, reducing the deficit to a minimum. Kolos responded by creating danger from a set piece – Ustinova reacted to Fedorenko’s effort. Kovalivka attacked more sharply and had promising chances after low crosses from the flanks, but lacked accuracy in the final phase. Meanwhile, the Orange-and-Blacks operated in a positional manner, but no real threat arose near Keliushyk’s goal. In stoppage time, Serbuk hit the crossbar with a header.
1-2 – Shakhtar women’s team lose to Kolos. The Miners will play their next league match after a long break in a month, on April 28, against Metalist 1925.
