Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev spoke about the match against Kolos and the plans during the international break
– The importance of the match was undoubtedly high for both us and Kolos. Everyone understood what was at stake and prepared accordingly. However, as it was already our third match of the second part of the season, while Kolos had a round off, they looked fresher. It was exactly this freshness that we lacked in the first half, and it was needed to be on their level. We were consistently second to the ball and lost out in challenges. This had an impact, and so-called loose balls went in Kolos’ favour, which allowed them to dominate possession. The goals we conceded became a source of pressure that we were unable to cope with.
– Shakhtar have already played three matches in the competitive group of the second stage of the Vyshcha League. What conclusions can be drawn?
– We are trying to compete with all the teams in the top five, and the matches are, of course, difficult. We lack the necessary quality to match these opponents in terms of results. We need to work on individual quality, psychology and character – these are essential for achieving results. We will continue moving in this direction because the club’s name demands it, and we are trying to build a quality team. I think this is not far off.
– A long break lies ahead. What are your plans for this period?
– Before going on a short holiday, we will play a friendly against Ukraine WU19, who are preparing for the UEFA Women’s European Championship qualifiers. After that, the team will have a short rest to recover, and once this period is over, we will resume our usual preparations for the next league matches.
