Shakhtar women’s team hosted EMS-Podillia in the Vyshcha League first stage round 16

Head coach Roman Zaiev named the following starting line-up: Ustinova was in goal, Sikorska, Henyk, Balatska and Liakhovych formed the defence, Kotovets, Starukhina and Myronenko played in midfield, Marchenko and Druzhchenko on the wings, with Chaika leading the attack.

An active start and Druzhchenko's goal-scoring debut

Shakhtar’s players got off to an energetic start and quickly took the lead. Marchenko carried the ball down the right flank, broke into the penalty area and delivered a pass to Druzhchenko, who finished first-time into the net. A minute later, the forward almost doubled the lead, but her shot went over the bar. From the opening minutes, the Orange-and-Blacks dominated possession and constantly threatened Chubak’s goal. Finally, in the 12th minute, their chances were converted when Marchenko fired a powerful shot into the net. It didn’t take long for the Miners to orchestrate another attack: Marchenko delivered from the flank into the central zone to Liakhovych, whose precise pass split the opposition’s defence and set Chaika up one-on-one with the goalkeeper – 3-0. Despite their commanding lead, the hosts didn’t allow the visitors to get close to the final third. The Vinnytsia side attempted long-range shots, but Ustinova was never seriously threatened. Meanwhile, the Miners continued to attack. Starukhina had a great opportunity when she skilfully beat her markers and shot from outside the box, only for Chubak to react and save. Before the break, after swift attacking moves, Druzhchenko and Chaika added further goals to extend the lead.

Rotation and playing on top

After the break, Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev refreshed the left flank with a substitution, as Kuksa replaced Liakhovych. In the second half, the Vinnytsia side began to play more boldly and approached Ustinova's goal more and more often, though they failed to produce any clear-cut efforts. The Orange-and-Blacks responded with chances of their own and, in the 64th minute, were awarded a penalty following a challenge inside the box. Marchenko calmly converted though a precise shot into the bottom corner to extend the lead. Shakhtar then made a triple substitution, with Pipchenko, Shevtsova and Chendei coming on. Shortly afterwards, Shakhtar took control of the ball and launched another wave of attacks on Chubak’s goal with renewed energy. In the 72nd minute, Chendei added her name to the scoresheet. The closing stages were played almost entirely in the visitors’ half, though without any further goals.

7-0 – Shakhtar women’s team claim a confident victory over EMS-Podillia in their first match of the year. Next Wednesday, March 11, the Miners will face Metalist 1925 Kharkiv.
