Shakhtar women's team hosted Kolos on the Vyshcha League second stage MD8

The match started with a delay of over two hours due to a prolonged air raid alert in Kyiv Oblast. Shakhtar’s women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following starting line-up: Ustinova was in goal, Sikorska, Henyk, Balatska and Kotovets appeared in defence, Myronenko, Kuksa and Chaika played in midfield, Holovach and Zavidova operated on the wings, with Druzhchenko leading the line.

Holovach’s winning goal

The opening stages of the match were evenly contested across all areas of the pitch, with no real danger near either goal. The Kovalivka side were slightly more active, reaching the penalty area more often, but Shakhtar defenders did not allow any shots on Ustinova’s goal. The Orange-and-Blacks responded with combination play after interceptions and crosses from the flanks, but these attempts were dealt with confidently by Keliushyk. The Miners created the most dangerous chance: Druzhchenko split the opposition defence with a pass and sent Zavidova one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Kolos were saved by their keeper. In the next attack, Myronenko had a chance from outside the box, but Keliushyk comfortably gathered the ball. The closing minutes of the first half were played in Shakhtar’s half, but apart from crosses and inaccurate long-rangers, there were no real threats to Ustinova’s goal. However, in the 44th minute, Holovach beat three opponents, broke into the penalty area and finished precisely into the corner of the net to open the scoring.

A tense half

The second half started with a shot from Semkiv, which Ustinova dealt with comfortably. In the next moment, Kolos came close to equalising: Nemets aimed under the crossbar, and Ustinova could not secure the ball immediately, with Ostapiv going for the rebound, but the goalkeeper reacted in time and cleared the danger. Shakhtar became more aggressive, pushing into the opposition half and trying to create chances near Keliushyk’s goal. After one of the attacks, Myronenko attempted a shot on target, but it went over the crossbar. The game then turned into a battle, and although Kolos controlled more possession, they were unable to break through Shakhtar’s compact defence. In the 76th minute, the Kovalivka outfit thought they had equalised when Nemets headed in a cross from the wing, but the referee ruled it offside. Moments later, Druzhchenko could have doubled the lead after a rebound inside the box, but her first-time effort went over the target. In the 86th minute, Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev made a substitution to refresh the attacking line, with Veherych replacing Chaika. The closing stages were tense as Kolos pushed hard for an equaliser, but despite hitting the post, the Orange-and-Blacks held on to secure the victory.

1-0 – Shakhtar women’s team defeated Kolos and move up to 4th spot in the table with 38 points. The Orange-and-Blacks will face Metalist 1925 in the final league game on May 22.
