Shakhtar women’s team played against Metalist 1925 in the final game of the season
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following starting line-up for the match: Ustinova was in goal, Kotovets, Balatska, Henyk and Sikorska formed the defensive line, Myronenko, Kuksa and Chaika played in midfield, Holovach and Marchenko operated on the wings of attack, with Druzhchenko leading the line.
A productive start and a response before the break
The Kharkiv side started the game on the front foot and quickly took the lead when Andrukhiv lifted the ball over Ustinova with a long-range effort and sent it into the top corner. Five minutes later, Andrukhiv came close to doubling the advantage, but the forward was only a few centimetres short of turning in a cross from the flank. Shakhtar built their play from defence and had their chance in the 19th minute: Holovach carried the ball from her own penalty area into the opposition half and played it wide to Marchenko who got into a shooting position and struck just wide of the post. The game then evened out, with both sides battling for possession and few chances created in front of goal. It was the Miners who were more clinical, equalising in the 35th minute, with Holovach finishing accurately following a corner kick.
A dramatic half
The second half started strongly for the Shakhtar footballers who took the lead when Holovach broke through from the flank into a shooting position and placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The Orange-and-Blacks did not slow the tempo or drop into a deep defensive block. Instead, they kept more possession in the Kharkiv side’s half and continued to threaten the goal of Bondarchuk, particularly from set pieces. Metalist 1925 also played an open game, creating chances through combinations around the penalty area and long-range efforts. Later, Myronenko had a good opportunity to extend the lead, but the midfielder lacked accuracy after Holovach set her up. Towards the end of the match, the Kharkiv outfit increased their pressure and forced Shakhtar into a low defensive block. In the 80th minute, Molodiuk missed a clear chance from close range, but Metalist 1925 eventually equalised in added time: following a corner, Bondarchuk reacted quickest to a rebound and scored.
