Shakhtar youth team forward and top scorer of the U19 National League Muhamadou Kanteh shared his thoughts on winning the title and his goalscoring record, and summed up the season
The Shakhtar U19 centre-forward Muhamadou Kanteh enjoyed a highly productive season, becoming the leader of the team’s attacking line. In 28 matches in the U19 National League, he scored 28 goals and played a total of 2,076 minutes (averaging 74 minutes per goal).
At the end of the season, the striker set a new youth league record and became the top scorer in the history of Shakhtar U19.
– You set a new U19 National League record by netting 28 goals and became the top scorer. What does this achievement mean to you personally?
– It means a lot to me, but I want to emphasise that it is not only about me. My teammates played a significant role in my achievement. Of course, I’m proud of the record and of becoming the top scorer, and it motivates me to keep improving and to set even higher goals in the future.
– Let’s recall the start of the season. Did you believe that by the end of it you would be able to show such scoring form and become a champion?
– At the beginning of the season, my goal was to work hard and improve every day. I believed in myself and in the team, but football is unpredictable. We stayed focused, trusted the process and reached a special moment step by step. This season was a great experience. I was able to make significant progress both on and off the pitch. Of course, I’m satisfied with my performances, but I know I can achieve more. I’m never completely satisfied because I always strive to improve and reach a new level.
– What are your future goals and what would you say to the fans who supported the team and followed your performances?
– First of all, my goal is to keep developing, to play consistently and hopefully move to a higher level. I want to keep scoring goals, helping my team and becoming a better player every day. I would simply like to thank the fans for their support throughout the season. It truly means a lot to us and gives us extra motivation on the pitch. We appreciate you, and we will continue to work hard to make you proud.
