Shakhtar women's team faced Seasters away on the Vyshcha League second stage MD7

Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following line-up for the clash with Seasters: Ustinova took the place between the sticks, Lutsan, Henyk, Balatska and Kravchuk played as defenders, Sikorska, Myronenko, Kuksa, Kotovets and Holovach appeared in midfield, with Druzhchenko spearheading the attack.

Chances at both ends

From the start, the Odesa side pressed high, hoping to pin Shakhtar back near their own goal. Seasters played aggressively, but without creating real danger, apart from Kalinina’s half-volley attempt and Pantsiulaia’s long-range effort, both off target. The Orange-and-Blacks built their play from defence and, after withstanding the early pressure, began to respond with their own attacks. In the 12th minute, Myronenko came close with a powerful long-ranger under the crossbar – Samson stretched to make a diving save and keep it out. Five minutes later, the Odesa side had a promising moment from a corner: Kalinina delivered to the near post, where a scramble followed, and Churikova was first to the rebound but failed to direct the ball on target. Soon after, the hosts orchestrated a very dangerous attack, with Colmenares going one-on-one, but Ustinova closed the angle in time and blocked the attempt. The Miners immediately responded, as Holovach played a through pass to Druzhchenko in a shooting position – but Samson again rescued Seasters. In the 36th minute, Roman Zaiev made a substitution: Marchenko came on for Lutsan. In the closing stages of the half, the Miners controlled possession in their own half and did not allow the opponents to threaten Ustinova’s goal.

Conceded an early goal and lost control of the game

The second half began with a scoring move from Seasters: Maiborodina sprinted down the left flank and delivered a low cross into the box, where Nelson finished at the near post. Maiborodina created the next chance near Ustinova’s goal herself, this time taking a shot, but the goalkeeper reacted well to make the save. Shakhtar coaching staff then strengthened the attacking line with a substitution: Veherych came on for Kravchuk. Seasters continued to play in Shakhtar’s half and doubled their lead in the 67th minute after a set piece, with Osipian finishing powerfully. It didn’t take long for the Odesa side to score a third: Kalinina picked up the ball near the centre circle and, with her second touch, placed it into the corner of the net. In the 79th minute, the hosts once again broke through Shakhtar’s defence and scored through Nelson. Immediately afterwards, Shakhtar made a triple substitution: Zolotukhina, Liakhovych and Chendei came on. Later, after another attack and a lay-off from Kalinina, Nelson completed her hat-trick with a volley to seal the match.

0-5 – Shakhtar women’s team lost away to Seasters in Odesa. Roman Zaiev’s side will play their next match against Kolos at Arsenal Arena on Wednesday, May 13.
