We cannot afford mistakes

Shakhtar U19 defender Yaroslav Mylokost shared his thoughts after the victory over Poltava U19
– It was a difficult match for us. We had not played on an artificial pitch for quite a while, so during the warm-up we did special exercises to adapt better to the ball’s bounce and the specifics of the surface. We got the result we needed, but overall the performance was not our best. In my opinion, we were not properly focused and you are punished immediately for that in football. Still, we managed to regroup in time and scored the decisive goal in the closing minutes.
– You scored your first goal for Shakhtar U19. How important was it for you?
– Very important because I’m a defender and do not score that often. I’m happy that I helped the team and made my family proud as they follow my performances. I believe the goal was the result of our coaches’ work because we regularly practise set piece situations in training.
– The team are entering a crucial stage of the season, with matches with matches that could decide the title. How are you approaching this period and what are your expectations?
– We still have three matches ahead of us – we cannot afford mistakes. Our focus will be at the highest level. We will step onto the pitch with only one goal – to win.
– You have been getting more playing time since the start of the second half of the season and have managed to establish yourself in the starting line-up. What does that say about you and are you satisfied?
– I suppose it reflects the hard work I put in during training. But in football time passes very quickly, so you cannot stop, think everything is fine and relax. You need to keep developing, improve your strengths and work on your weaknesses. I would like to thank the coaching staff for their trust. The whole team and I will try to repay it with good results on the pitch.
