Shakhtar U19 played against Poltava U19 away in the Youth League round 27
Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik made several changes compared to the previous league match and named the following starting XI: Chympoiesh was in goal, Reshetnikov and Strilchuk operated as full-backs, Onishchuk and Mylokost formed the centre-back pairing, the midfield line consisted of Davydenko, Balakai and Tiutiunov, Derykon and Zubrii started on the wings, with Lomaha taking the centre-forward position.
Strilchuk’s goal gave Shakhtar a half-time lead
The Miners started the game on the front foot, controlling possession in the Poltava side’s half and looking to threaten Kostiuk’s goal. In the 7th minute, Tiutiunov had a chance after winning a challenge and finding himself in a dangerous position, but he fired over the crossbar. Eventually, the Orange-and-Blacks turned their pressure into a quick goal: Tiutiunov drove forward down the right flank and played a pass to Zubrii, who struck the post, with Strilchuk quickest to react to the rebound, taking up a good position and finishing into the net. The Orange-and-Blacks continued to control proceedings, although at times they made mistakes that led to turnovers and counterattacks from the opposition. However, Poltava rarely managed to create clear shooting opportunities. The closing stages of the first half were dominated by Shakhtar’s pressure: first, Zubrii beat his marker and came close to doubling the lead, and shortly afterwards Tiutiunov had another chance, but the Poltava goalkeeper made a solid save. In added time, Lomaha had an excellent opportunity, winning an aerial duel and directing a header on target, but once again the goalkeeper saved the hosts.
Kanteh snatches victory in a tense match
At half-time, Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik made a substitution: Harmash replaced Lomaha. The second half began without any dangerous chances near either goal. In the 52nd minute, Poltava worked a potentially dangerous set piece, but after the delivery into the box they failed to direct the ball on target. The Miners quickly responded with their own attack, finished by Tiutiunov, but the Poltava goalkeeper closed him down in time and denied a second goal. Poltava mainly threatened from set pieces, and in the 58th minute, Zhadan restored parity after a delivery and a long scramble in the box. Shortly after, the Pitmen responded again: following a corner and a second ball, Mylokost found the net. Poltava U19 then took control for a spell, built an attack down the wing and equalised once more. Starushko broke into the penalty area and squared the ball to the unmarked Kravchenko, who calmly converted. The Orange-and-Blacks immediately stepped up their pressure and committed more players forward. In the closing minutes, Shakhtar finally secured the win through a penalty converted by Kanteh.
