Shakhtar U19 hosted Sporting CP U19 in the UEFA Youth League league phase round 4 in London
Shakhtar U19 lined-up as follows for their match against their Sporting CP counterparts: Chympoiesh took his place in goal, Reshetnikov, Mylokost, Kostiuk and Kaliuzhnyi formed the back line, Derykon, Chornenkyi and Tiutiunov featured in midfield, Petruk and Ryan played on the wings, with Zubrii leading the line.
Shakhtar threatened on the counter but conceded late
The match began with a chance in front of Lodmell’s goal. Chornenkyi knocked the ball past the Lions’ defenders and set up Tiutiunov for a shot, but the midfielder was unable to beat the goalkeeper from a tight angle. The teams then took turns in possession as they sized each other up. Camacho created the first chance for the Lisbon side, shooting from among the defenders, but Chympoiesh reacted well to the danger. In the 24th minute, the Miners launched a swift counterattack which ended with Chornenkyi firing towards the top of the goal, however the goalkeeper dived to turn the ball behind for a corner. Reshetnikov had a chance following the set piece but failed to hit the target. The middle period of the half and its closing minutes passed without either side establishing a clear foothold in the game, but it was the Portuguese side who came closer to opening the scoring. Varela got past three Shakhtar U19 defenders and found himself in a shooting position, but sent his effort over the crossbar. And in the final minute of the first half, Sporting U19 took the lead from a corner, with Grombahi heading home.
A consolation goal
The second half began with efforts from Petruk and Ferreira at either end, but neither managed to hit the target. In the 59th minute, the Lions doubled their lead: Machado won the ball off Kaliuzhnyi on the edge of a foul and delivered a cross from the right into the six-yard box, where Silva headed it home. Silva needed just five minutes to complete his brace: he outpaced Kostiuk, went through one-on-one with Chympoiesh and slotted the ball into the net. Tiutiunov then had a promising chance to pull one back for the Orange-and-Blacks with a long-ranger, but Lodmell turned it behind for a corner. The visitors then ceded possession to the Miners, who looked for openings in front of the opposition goal and managed to score a consolation goal through Tverdokhlib in stoppage time.
1-3 – Shakhtar youth team lost to their Sporting counterparts. The Orange-and-Blacks will play their next UEFA Youth League match against Fenerbahçe U19 in London on November 25.
