Shakhtar U19 faced Inter U19 in Milan in the UEFA Youth League league phase round 3
Shakhtar’s UEFA Youth League head coach Oleksii Bielik named the following starting line-up for the clash with Inter U19: Chympoiesh took his place between the sticks, Kaliuzhnyi and Shukalovych played at full-back, Kostiuk and Mylokost formed the centre-back pairing, Chornеnkyi, Tiutiunov and Derykon operated in midfield, Petruk and Zubrii were on the wings, with Harmash taking the central forward position.
A fast start and a defensive approach
The Orange-and-Blacks began the match with a dangerous attack after Petruk dispossessed Sorino near the penalty area and advanced into a threatening position, but Galliera reacted well to the danger. In response, the Milan side looked to create chances from set pieces, but efforts from Cerpelletti and El Mahboubi did not find the net. In the 22nd minute, the Pitmen had a strong penalty appeal when Galliera brought down Petruk as he tried to lift the ball over the goalkeeper, but the referee waved play on. The hosts took the initiative and looked for ways into the final third, while the Pitmen remained disciplined in defence and launched attacks after winning possession. However, in stoppage time, the Miners made a costly mistake, and Alen Vukaj fired an accurate shot from outside the penalty area to open the scoring.
Shakhtar’s attempts to turn the game around proved unsuccessful
The second half began with Shakhtar taking the initiative. Zubrii and Tiutiunov had excellent chances after making runs into dangerous positions, but both lacked accuracy with their finishing. The teams then took turns in possession, looking for ways to threaten each other’s goal. In the 63rd minute, Oleksii Bielik made a double substitution to freshen up the right flank, bringing on Kuriachyi and Pylypiuk. Two minutes later, El Mahboubi could have doubled Inter’s lead following a corner routine and a cross to the far post, but he failed to make proper contact with the ball, which went wide. In the 67th minute, Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik received a second yellow card and was sent off. The hosts eventually put together a well-worked move and extended their lead. Cerpelletti played a through ball for Evangelista, who delivered an accurate pass for Carrara to finish. The Pitmen responded with a triple substitution, bringing on Voloshko, Tverdokhlib and Safonov, but they were unable to turn things around or change the score.
0-2 – Shakhtar youth team lost to their Inter counterparts. The Miners will play their next UEFA Youth League match against Sporting CP U19 in London on November 3.
