Shakhtar faced Veres away in the UPL round 8
The Orange-and-Blacks’ head coach Arda Turan selected the following starting line-up: Riznyk took his place between the sticks, Matviienko and Bondar formed the centre-back pairing, Vinicius Tobias and Pedro Henrique played at full-back, Kryskiv, Pedrinho and Marlon Gomes operated in midfield, Alisson and Newertton were deployed on the wings, with Kaua Elias leading the line.
Pedrinho’s goal and the opponent’s sending-off proved decisive
The teams made an attacking start to the match and traded attacks. The Miners created the first dangerous chance when Pedrinho beat his opponents and played a through ball to send Kaua Elias one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the Rivne keeper saved the striker’s effort towards the bottom right corner. Shakhtar continued to push forward, with Alisson seeing his shot blocked and Vinicius Tobias firing just wide of the post. The hosts responded with chances of their own: first, Cipot headed towards goal from a corner, hitting the crossbar, before Gonçalves broke through one-on-one only for Riznyk to win the duel. Shakhtar eventually broke the deadlock: in the 32nd minute, Horokh parried Newertton’s long-ranger, but Pedrinho beat a defender to the rebound and turned the ball into the net to make it 0-1. Then, in the 37th minute, Veres were reduced to ten men when Baran lunged into Bondar with a straight leg, endangering his opponent’s safety. The referee showed him a straight red card. The rest of the half was controlled by the Orange-and-Blacks, and in stoppage time Alisson beat his marker and broke into the penalty area, but his finish was off target.
Stunning goals from Matviienko and Pedro Henrique, and a debut for Matturro

Isaque fired over the bar from a tight angle, while Bondar’s long-range effort went wide. What one centre-back could not do, another did: in the 58th minute, Mykola Matviienko unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the top right corner to make it 0-2. Isaque then set up Pedrinho, but the Rivne side’s defender blocked his shot. A few minutes later, the opponents also blocked Newertton’s attempt. In the 71st minute, the Orange-and-Blacks scored a third, with another spectacular goal from a defender. following a corner on the right, Pedro Henrique received the ball and struck a superb long-ranger into the near bottom corner – 0-3. The Pitmen’s coaching staff made three substitutions, bringing on Karavaiev, Nazaryna and Meirelles. Marlon Gomes tried to join his teammates’ goal-scoring challenge, but the hosts’ goalkeeper produced an excellent save to keep out his thunderous effort from the top corner. Horokh was called into action several more times, saving efforts from Meirelles (a header), Alisson and Newertton (from outside the penalty area). A landmark moment came in the 81st minute, when Alan Matturro replaced Pedrinho to make his Shakhtar debut. Meanwhile, the Rivne side created their only chance of the second half on a swift counter-attack, but Niyo’s shot struck the crossbar. Alisson responded by racing down the right flank and firing just wide of the right post.
