September 10, Eindhoven, Campus De Herdgang, 15:00
The live stream will be available on the
FC Shakhtar app and the club’s official website

Match build-up

The new UEFA Youth League (UYL) season will be the 11th for Shakhtar’s youth side. The Orange-and-Blacks have been actively preparing for their European campaign during the pre-season, training at the Academy base in Shchaslyve while also participating in domestic competitions. The Pitmen’s squad for the tournament will consist of players from Shakhtar U21 and U19 and will be led by Oleksii Bielik and his coaching staff.

Oleksandr Aleksieiev, Deputy Director of the Youth Football Department:

– Given that many players in the U21 team already have experience of playing in the UEFA Youth League and the U19 championship in previous seasons, it was decided to make the U21 team the core of the squad that will take part in the 2026/27 UEFA Youth League. Accordingly, the team will be led by Oleksii Bielik’s coaching staff. It is worth noting that this will effectively be a combined squad of U21 and U19 players, as the competition regulations do not strictly tie players to one particular team within the club structure. What is essential is that the players are registered with the club for official national competitions and meet the age requirements up to 19 years old, as well as up to five academy graduates aged under 20.

Opponents

For PSV U19, the current UEFA Youth League campaign will be the seventh in the club’s history. Last season, the Eindhoven side finished 19th in the league phase, collecting 8 points from 6 matches (2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats), which saw them progress to the play-offs. In the round of 32, the opponents drew with Chelsea U19 (1-1) in normal time, but lost to the English side on penalties (6-7) and ended their European campaign.

The team prepared for the new season under new head coach Jasper Waalkens, a PSV academy graduate who played professionally for Willem II, Helmond Sport, Fortuna Sittard, NEC and Almere City. Waalkens began his coaching career in the Willem II system and has been working within the PSV academy structure since 2022. In August, under his guidance, the Eindhoven side reached the final of the Otten Innovation Cup, where they lost to Palmeiras (1-2).

The start of the new domestic season has been a difficult one: PSV U19 drew with Feyenoord U19 (3-3) before losing to AZ (0-2).

Match background

The only meeting between Shakhtar and PSV in the UEFA Youth League ended in a draw.

Previous match

On November 27, 2024, PSV U19 and Shakhtar U19 faced each other in Eindhoven. PSV U19 dominated the first half, but Shakhtar defended solidly. Van Duiven’s goal in the 24th minute was ruled out for offside, so the teams went into the break at 0-0. At the start of the second half, van Duiven converted a penalty to put the Eindhoven side ahead. The Miners stepped up their attacking efforts and, in the 76th minute, Drozd equalised after taking advantage of a goalkeeping error. The hosts tried to snatch a win late on, but Shakhtar held on for a 1-1 draw.
