Shakhtar women's team faced Kolos away on the Prime League MD9

Roman Zaiev’s side went into the match with 7 points from 7 games in 5th spot, while Kovalivka outfit are among the league leaders and sit 2nd in the table with 16 points from 8 matches.

A hard-fought first half with two goals for the opponents

Kolos started the match more actively, creating several dangerous chances early on and taking the lead as early as the 6th minute: Fedorenko reacted to a cross from her teammate and headed the ball into the net from the goal-area line. Gradually, the Shakhtar footballers got back into the game and created a chance of their own, when Veherych won the ball near the opposition’s penalty area and fired over the crossbar from distance. But in the 21st minute, Kolos scored again: Kotiash received a pass from the flank and found the bottom right corner from around 13 metres. The rest of the half was spent in a positional battle, with both teams trying to establish control of the ball in midfield, but without creating any chances. This prompted Roman Zaiev to make a double substitution before the break, bringing on Mokhnach and Zolotukhina.

Kolos’ superiority in finishing

The second half began with Kolos on the attack, and Liudmyla Ustinova soon made a brilliant save, tipping a close-range effort around the left post. However, in the 56th minute, the pressure finally led to a third goal: Ostapiv made a solo run through half the pitch and fired powerfully under the crossbar on entering the penalty area. Roman Zaiev responded with another double substitution, bringing Druzhchenko and Marchenko into the game. Shakhtar tried to seize the initiative: they moved the game into the central area and looked to build combination play. Marchenko tried her luck from distance, but the ball went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands. Kolos responded with chances of their own, but Ustinova came to the rescue on several occasions, while the rest of the shots went wide. Towards the end of the match, the lively Mariia Marchenko had a great chance, bursting into the penalty area down the left flank and firing powerfully towards the near corner, but the home side were saved by their goalkeeper. 0-3 – the Orange and Blacks lost to Kolos.

In their next Prime League match, Shakhtar women’s team will host Ladomyr in Shchaslyve on September 20.
