Shakhtar U21 hosted LNZ U21 on the UPL-2 MD7 in Kyiv
Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik picked the following starting line-up for the match against LNZ U21: Chympoiesh took his place in goal, Strilchuk, Kostiuk, Harabazhii and Reshetnikov operated in defence, Smetana, Derykon and Tiutiunov were in midfield, Zubrii and Petruk played on the wings, with Kanteh up front.

The Miners started the match more actively, with Zubrii having the first chance. He moved in from the flank into a shooting position, shot with a defender in front of him and aimed for the near corner, but Samoilenko dived to parry it. The Cherkasy side soon responded with a chance for Mykytyshyn, but his shot went wide, and the Orange-and-Blacks immediately gained territorial advantage and began threatening the LNZ U21 goal with long-rangers. In the 22nd minute, the Pitmen managed to find space in the opponents’ penalty area and almost took the lead when Tiutiunov headed the ball following Strilchuk’s cross, but the crossbar came to the rescue. The hosts’ next dangerous attack resulted in a goal: Strilchuk reacted first to the loose ball in the penalty area and fired past Samoilenko. Towards the end of the half, the Cherkasy outfit stepped up the pressure and began putting Chympoiesh’s goal under intense pressure, with David restored parity in the 45th minute.
A late corner denied Shakhtar victory
The second half began with Shakhtar taking the initiative and scoring a quick goal: Reshetnikov struck from distance, and although Samoilenko parried his attempt, he failed to hold on to the ball, and Kanteh was in the right position to convert the rebound. Moments later, Smetana could have added another, but his powerful free-kick went over the bar. It did not take the visitors long to create a chance of their own, with Mykytyshyn again causing danger as he carried the ball through the defenders in the penalty area and shot on target, but his effort did not result in a goal. The game then continued with attacks going from end to end, with the visitors proving more successful: Donyk carried the ball into the penalty area and found the target past Chympoiesh. Two minutes later, the Miners had another chance to regain the lead when Reshetnikov shot straight at the goalkeeper from a great position following a corner. In the 75th minute, the Miners took the lead again: Smetana picked up the ball in the centre circle, made use of the space available to him and found the bottom corner with a powerful shot. Just five minutes later, LNZ U21 equalised, with Mikliash finding the net. The pace did not drop in the closing stages, and after a corner, Kravets found the target with a precise shot to bring the match to an end.
3-4 – the Miners lost to LNZ U21 in a high-scoring match. The Orange-and-Blacks will play their next match against Veres U21 after the international break on October 11.
