Children from Krasnopavlivka and Pivdenne took part in the Pace for Health camp in Greece
As part of the Pace for Health project, implemented by Shakhtar Social with the support of the European Union’s Erasmus+ Sport programme, 30 children from Krasnopavlivka in Kharkiv Oblast and Pivdenne in Odesa Oblast took part in a sports camp in Athens.
The programme combined sport, creativity and active recreation. The children trained, played football, swam in the pool and in the sea, took part in tournaments and team competitions, and also enjoyed chess and table tennis, cycling, drawing and gardening. The camp gave the children an opportunity to make new friends and spend time with their peers. The time spent by the sea and the packed programme helped the children experience a change of scenery, relax and, at least for a while, take their minds off the realities of war.
Yana Kondratiuk, Pace for Health project coach:
– For me, the project became about much more than just sport as we combined physical activity with a psychosocial component, which is especially important for children who were forced to leave their homes because of the war. The kids had a chance to reset, relax and experience a change of scenery. They returned from Greece not simply as a team, but as one big family.
Akim, Pace for Health project participant:
– I have been taking part in the Pace for Health project for more than a year. This summer, we went to a camp in Athens. I really enjoyed it and made new friends. I was able to take a break from air raid alerts and have lots of new experiences and positive emotions.
The camp was organised thanks to a partnership with AEK Sports Club and was part of the Pace for Health project, which aims to support children’s physical and emotional well-being through sport.
