Shakhtar women's team faced the league leaders, Kharkiv, on the Prime League MD7
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following starting line-up for the game against Kharkiv: Ustinova took her place in goal, Sikorska, Henyk, Balatska and Kotovets formed the defensive line, Mokhnach, Myronenko and Kuksa played in midfield, Holovach and Marchenko started on the wings, with Druzhchenko leading the line.
Early pressure from Kharkiv
The Kharkiv side took control from the start, immediately looking to pin Shakhtar back in their own penalty area, creating most of their danger from the wings and following corner routines. The Orange-and-Blacks weathered the pressure and created a chance on the counter-attack: Marchenko tried to pick out the near corner from distance, but it was no trouble for Bondarchuk. Eventually, in the 19th minute, the hosts managed to find gaps in Shakhtar’s defence and opened the scoring: Andrukhiv delivered the ball from the right wing towards the far post, where Hiryn escaped her marker and headed the ball on target. It did not take the Kharkiv outfit long to double their advantage: Basanska sent a set piece into the six-yard box, where there was a scramble, and Shainiuk reacted quickest to the loose ball.
Playing on the back foot
After the break, Shakhtar made an attacking change, with Veherych coming on for Marchenko. The second half began with danger around Ustinova’s goal after Basanska shot from distance towards the crossbar, but her effort went over. In the 56th minute, Khimych could have scored when she struck the crossbar with an effort from the right flank. Then, in the 63rd minute, the Kharkiv side extended their lead: Radionova finished off Apanaschenko’s pass. The Miners briefly stepped up and tried to get into the final third, but the hosts found the net again: Andrukhiv curled a free-kick under the crossbar, leaving Ustinova with no chance. The closing minutes were played mostly in Shakhtar’s half, but there were no further chances and the score remained unchanged.
