Shakhtar U21 faced Karpaty U21 away in the UPL-2 MD5 standout match
Compared with the match against Polissia U21, Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik made several changes to the starting XI for the game against Karpaty U21, naming the following line-up: Bahlai started in goal, Sheleketa, Verhun, Mylokost and Strilchuk played in defence, Tsukanov, Smetana and Carvalho operated in midfield, Bruninho and Ryan were deployed on the wings, with Tverdokhlib taking the centre-forward role.

The match began with an even contest, with neither side posing much of a threat in front of goal. However, the Orange-and-Blacks struck early following a well-worked move. Carvalho played a through ball from the centre circle to Tsukanov, who advanced towards the goalkeeper and found the far corner. After taking the lead, the Miners briefly took control of possession, combining around the edge of the penalty area and looking to double their advantage. However, the Lviv side soon stepped up their attacking efforts, and in the 25th minute, Karabin had an excellent chance to level the score, but his effort from a good position went over the bar. Kopyl then had two chances of his own: first, he shot towards the near corner (Bahlai’s save); in the next attack, he threatened the goal from a corner (wide of the post). As the half drew to a close, Abramchuk got a dangerous shot away from under pressure from Sheleketa, but Bahlai stayed in control and saved the effort while falling. Shakhtar could have doubled their lead through Tsukanov and Carvalho, but the hosts were saved by their goalkeeper on both occasions.
Tense closing stages
At the start of the second half, the sides exchanged efforts from Tsukanov and Sapuha, with both shots going wide. The hosts were slightly more active, getting forward into the final third more often, and in the 63rd minute, Buleza tried to pick out the top corner with a powerful effort from distance, but the ball went centimetres over the crossbar. Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik soon freshened up his attacking line with a triple substitution, bringing on Zubrii, Petruk and Derykon, followed later by Harmash and Balakai. The Lviv outfit kept up the pressure and pushed hard for an equaliser. In the 77th minute, Kalyn had a huge chance when he managed to lift the ball over Bahlai, but Verhun came to the goalkeeper’s rescue at the last moment, effectively clearing the ball off the goal line. Shakhtar responded with a swift counter-attack, sending Zubrii into space, but his subsequent effort was blocked by Chaban. In the closing stages, the Lviv side had perhaps their best chance to salvage something from the match when Kopyl’s effort struck the post twice.
