On November 5, Shakhtar fitness coach Nuno Romano marks his birthday. We wished the birthday boy many happy returns and talked to him about his adaptation, his highlights and new technologies in football

- Nuno, you’ve been at Shakhtar for half a year now. What could you tell us about this period of your life?
- Very positive and important experience for me. I think the adaptation over the six months has been successfully completed. I like everything here, and I will remember this time for the rest of my life.

- How were you settling at the new club, the city and the country? What was new and unusual?
- The adaptation went well. Of course, I initially experienced a kind of shock - from the different culture, from the new language, even from the organisation of work at the club. Talking about Kyiv, it was rather a positive shock - I didn’t expect it to be such a great big city, which would receive me so well. I can only thank all the Ukrainians in general, and especially the people residing here, for such a warm welcome.

- What Shakhtar games do you remember best and which of them gave you lots of bright emotions?
- The first Champions League game is a very special moment. This is a competition in which I’ve never participated before, and the match will remain in my memory forever. The strongest emotionally was the recent meeting with Dynamo. They are our major rivals, and the way we won in the final minute will also leave some vivid memories.

- Recently, Shakhtar have been actively using GPS trackers. What’s the role of such innovative solutions in modern football and how can they change the sport in the future?
- GPS tracker system is the technology that appeared not so long ago. The whole football world is constantly expanding the possibilities of using this technology, and some very big steps have been taken recently. This helps us keep track of the workload the players get in training and during matches. We can better see the players’ efforts this way - both individual and collective ones. I believe that in the future we’ll be able to understand what specific loads they need before a certain game, and it will be possible to make the player appear at his best on the day of the match. This technology allows you to adapt to the tactical component of each team.
