The Shakhtar Academy graduate Andrii Vorobei became one of the Donetsk side’s symbols in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The agile, fast and masterful forward progressed from an 18-year-old debutant to a Champions League participant, Ukrainian team regular and one of the top scorers in the history of the Orange-and-Blacks.
In 2001, he took the lead in the top scorers’ race by netting 21 goals in the domestic league. As part of Shakhtar team, he won the Ukrainian league title three times, lifted Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.
Vorobei has 114 goals to his name in 319 encounters for Shakhtar. For a long time, he had been the club’s top scorer, until Luis Adriano surpassed his record.
