Bio & Career

Mykhailo Sokolovskyi is the pride of Shakhtar, its record holder and a long-time captain. His achievement in terms of the number of appearances for the Pitmen held for 29 years. In total, he spent 14 seasons with the Orange-and-Blacks, appeared in 485 matches and scored 105 goals.

Owing to his self-discipline, Sokolovskyi managed to maintain a great shape for many years, which guaranteed regular appearances. As a result, the Foreman, as he was nicknamed, has set the main records of the team in the USSR period: 400 appearances for the Pitmen (a number rare for any player in the Soviet football) and 87 goals in the USSR Championship (if you include cup games and goals in European tournaments, Sokolovskyi was one of the first Soviet midfielders to join the Grigory Fedotov club).

Sokolovskyi was a universal player that successfully combined creative play in midfield with a tremendous goal sense. Having dispatching abilities, he provided his partners with perfect passes. For a long time, Mykhailo had been the team captain.

The star of Mykhailo Sokolovskyi appeared on the Walk of Fame on May 8, 2011.
