Before the match

The 12-time Cup winners Shakhtar will play the team who have climbed so high for the first time. Previously, the final never saw the First League representatives, so, undoubtedly, the Orange-and-Blacks are facing a tough encounter with extremely motivated opponents.

Paulo Fonseca’s men are approaching the final straight of the season in a good mood and with a great opportunity to claim the golden double. They are facing the most important matches at the Slavutych Arena, in which it is important to maintain concentration and achieve the maximum result.

The Miners were preparing for the final at the Sviatoshyn suburban complex. One of the good news is related to the recovery of Marlos, who has already begun to get involved in the training process with the general group on May 13. The team will leave for Zaporizhia on the evening of May 14.

Opponents

The history of Inhulets dates back to 2013. The club from Petrovo, Kirovohrad Oblast,  received its current name in 2015. The players of Sergey Lavrinenko Zirka’s former manager Serhii Lavrynenko play in the First League and their best achievement is the 4th spot last season. This league season, the Yellow-Reds are in the 7th spot in the table. The Luhansk football representative and former player of Stal Alchevsk Oleksandr Akymenko is the team's top scorer with 10 goals.

On the way to the final, Inhulets left three Premier League representatives behind in the Cup - Mariupol, Karpaty, and Zorya. Three players have scored two goals each this Cup season: Artem Kozlov, Kamil Khuchbarov, and Artem Schedryi, with just the latter one currently remaining on the roster. On May 10, Inhulets held a league match vs Obolon-Brovar, losing 0-2 after the first half but scoring three goals in the second one and snatching the victory (Akymenko, Kucherenko, and Kozak scored goals).

We want to note that Vyacheslav Podnebennoy, Stanyslav Peredistyi, Maksym Kovalyov, and Mykhailo Pysko trained at Shakhtar in the early stages of their careers.

History

For the Miners, this is the 19th Ukrainian Cup final (8 wins in normal time, 3 wins in extra time, and 1 penalty shootout win). Shakhtar claimed this trophy in three consecutive seasons (2016, 2017, 2018).
