On February 12, Opera Hotel hosted the official presentation of Shakhtar newcomers
Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca handed player shirts to Manor Solomon and Valerii Bondarenko. The shirt number of the Israeli midfielder is 19, with the central defender having the number 15.
As part of the presentation, Paulo Fonseca answered a few questions from reporters:
- Who will play at centre-back against Eintracht, while Valerii Bondarenko has been recovering? What are the most successful pairings for today?
- Right, you’ve pointed out correctly that Bondarenko won’t take part in the match. At the moment, we’ve got three central defenders - Kryvtsov, Khocholava, and Matviienko. I won’t say who exactly, but two of them will appear in the starting line-up.
- Can Manor Solomon eventually replace Taison or Marlos?
- Manor joined Shakhtar because he’s got the attributes which integrate well with our playing style. We’ve got some excellent opportunities: we can deploy him on both flanks, we can field Taison in the attacking midfielder role, and to involve Solomon as a winger. With those players, we have certain options, as everyone needs rest and I also need to carry out some rotation. Manor is a young player with excellent qualities, he will undoubtedly be very important for Shakhtar.
- Please comment on the information from the press that you had a conflict with Yaroslav Rakits’kyy.
- It’s necessary to put this matter to rest once and for all: there was no conflict with Yaroslav at all. Rakits’kyy took the initiative, he contacted the club administration and me, expressing his desire to move to Zenit. There was no conflict whatsoever. The club understood his desire. There’s also an element of business side involved, which is profitable for Shakhtar. As a result, the deal actually happened.
- Who do you train as the right-back for the game against Eintracht?
- You want me to name the entire starting line-up for Thursday. Unfortunately, I can’t do that yet. Either Serhiy Bolbat or Bohdan Butko will appear - one of them.
We also want to mention that the event involved children. The little Shakhtar supporters in the shirts featuring the newcomers’ names were photographed with the new players and Paulo Fonseca, also receiving autographs from the players and the coach.
As soon as February 14, the Miners will play the UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg against German Eintracht. The meeting kicks off at 22:00 at the OSK Metalist in Kharkiv. You can purchase the tickets online, at shakhtar.com, and at the stadium ticket office.
